In light of the current economy it’s easy to say “can’t”.   As we see more and more about budget and service
cuts, it feels far more difficult to find the way that we can be successful despite the circumstances without
seriously damaging our values.   But we can continue to be successful – if we are willing to learn from our past
and from the innovations that are today making a difference in the lives of people who experience disability.

Join us as we examine creativity and collaboration with renewed hope.

Join us as we learn to engage with people who experience disability in new and constructive ways.

Join us as we throw off unnecessary limitations and find new solutions – for such a time as this.

On Saturday December 19, 2009 the world lost one of its most unique treasures when Kim Peek suffered a massive heart attack while at his home in a suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah.  Kim was the inspiration behind the 1988 movie “Rain Man” which won Oscars for Best Screenplay, Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor as well as several other awards.  Barry Morrow, who penned the film’s screenplay after meeting Kim in the early 1980’s, gave Kim his Oscar which accompanied him and his father Fran everywhere they went.   They enjoyed sharing the Oscar with everyone who wanted to touch or hold it and was a huge source of pride for Kim.

CRA Director of Operations Steve Potts had the pleasure of working with Kim and Fran when they keynoted for a conference in Hawaii in 2007.  Even though their time together was short, the lifelong impact of that visit has left an indelible mark not just on Steve, but on all of those who were fortunate to have met this incredible soul.

Rest in peace Kim and thanks for enhancing all of our lives!
